Victor Brusin
Student Representative (2024-2026)
I started to work with animal welfare in 2016 when I joined the ETCO Group at São Paulo State University, Brazil, under the guidance of Dr. Mateus Paranhos. During this time, I worked on various projects that deepened my understanding of animal behaviour and welfare, focusing on practical solutions to improve livestock management.
I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. at the University of Calgary, Canada, as part of the Animal WelBe Group led by Dr. Maria Ceballos. My doctoral research explores the adoption and implementation of immunocastration in swine production systems across Brazil, Colombia, and Canada. Using qualitative methods, I aim to understand the key factors, motivations, and challenges associated with this innovative practice and its potential to enhance animal welfare.
Throughout my academic journey, I have been committed to advancing animal welfare science through collaboration and outreach. I am thrilled to serve as the ISAE Student Representative, fostering connections and supporting students within this vibrant and inspiring community.
