Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Human-Animal Bond

University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, USA

The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine is offering a postdoctoral research fellowship under the direction of Dr. Lauren Powell and Dr. Brittany Watson. The research fellow will join a growing multi-disciplinary team that studies the human-animal bond, animal welfare and behavior, shelter medicine, and community engagement. The team integrates research with community outreach through partnerships with local shelters, animal welfare organizations, and local public secondary schools.
The postdoctoral fellow will study companion animal ownership among economically diverse populations. Their projects will focus on the impacts of cat and dog ownership on human health and consider additional topics such as animal welfare and behavior, human-animal attachment, social determinants of health, and challenges of ownership, such as access to veterinary care and pet-friendly housing.
